English at work should lead somewhere.
Organisations invest in English for many reasons — communicating with international customers and colleagues, developing employees, recruiting internationally or supporting international growth.
But “our people need better English” isn’t really an outcome.
A more useful question is:
OTE helps employers think more clearly about the answer — and then identify the approach, support or partners most likely to achieve it.
What are you trying to achieve?
Improve communication across international teams
Help employees work more effectively with customers, suppliers or colleagues
Support recruitment, progression or professional development
Decide who genuinely needs English development — and what kind
Review an existing programme that isn’t delivering the expected results
Choose an appropriate provider, platform or approach
Connect English development more closely with business objectives
Support international growth or activity in new markets
The needs of a growing business may be very different from those of a multinational employer.
The starting point is still the same: what needs to change?
Questions worth asking first
Meetings, emails, customers, negotiations, international teams? “Improve English” is too broad an objective to design an effective solution around.
Not everyone needs the same level, the same skills — or necessarily formal English training at all.
Language ability may be the issue. But confidence, communication, cultural differences or working practices can matter too.
Attendance, completion and test scores are easy to measure. But are they the outcomes the organisation actually needs?
How OTE can help
Clarifying the requirement, options and questions worth asking.
A focused look at where English is being used, where genuine needs or gaps lie and whether the current approach addresses them.
Assessing existing or proposed provision against what the organisation actually needs.
Focused support around workforce English, international communication or related opportunities.
Connecting organisations with appropriate providers, specialists or potential partners.
